Keno Terms
All Or Nothing: A special keno ticket that wins only if all the selected numbers are drawn or if none of the selected numbers are drawn.
Blank: A keno ticket that has not yet been played.
Blower: A mechanical means of drawing numbers randomly. It consists of a Plexiglas bubble from which numbered keno balls are blown through a tube.
Cage: A mechanical means of drawing numbers randomly. It consists of a rotating wire cage containing numbered keno balls, from which one ball falls out at a time.
Catch: A number selected on the ticket that is drawn.
Combination Way Ticket: A special keno ticket in which groups of numbers are bet in different ways so as to create several combinations.
Exacta: A keno ticket that is usable for two games and which offers a special payout.
High End Ticket: A keno ticket in which the payout is adjusted to pay more than normal for a large number of matching numbers and less than normal for a low number of matching numbers.
High Roller Ticket: A keno ticket that has a high wagered amount.
House Edge: The advantage the house has over the player expressed as a percentage.
Keno Board: An electronic board put up in keno halls and casinos that shows the drawn numbers.
Keno Runner: A casino attendant who moves around the casino registering tickets before the draw and cashing winning tickets so that player can play keno while gambling at other games.
Keno Writer: A casino attendant who accepts and registers wagers and issues the payout vouchers.
Live Keno: Keno played in a live environment with paper tickets and crayon markers and the numbers drawn mechanically as opposed to keno played in a virtual setting like video keno or online keno.
Multi Game Keno Ticket: A special keno ticket that can be used for a number of keno games, sometimes over a long period of time.
Number Pool: The complete range of numbers on the keno ticket from which the selection is made. In most casinos the number pool is from 1 to 80.
Pattern: Groups of selected numbers that form a specified pattern like box or cross.
Pay Any Catch Ticket: A special keno ticket that pays off even for a single catch. Normally keno tickets do not payout for a low number of catches.
Progressive: A keno game that proceeds in rounds in which winners from one round get to play in the next one for progressively higher prizes.
Quick Pick: The option of having the computer make the selection of numbers instead of the player.
Random Number Generator: A software program that draws random numbers in a video or online keno game.
Straight Keno: The normal keno game.
Top-Bottom Ticket: A special keno ticket in which the player selects either the top 40 numbers or the bottom 40.
Video Keno: An electronic machine in which tickets are generated on the monitor and marked using the mouse. The numbers are drawn by the computer, which automatically calculates the payout. The elimination of paperwork increases the speed and reduces the cost to the casino.
