Video Poker Terms
Aces and Faces Video Poker: A game in which four aces or four same-ranked face cards get a bonus payout.
All American Video Poker: Offers a higher payout for a Straight Flush than other games.
Bonus Video Poker: In order to make the game more favourable to players many games offer a bonus payout on specified bonus payouts. Such games are collectively known as bonus video poker games.
Cash Out: To stop playing and collect your winnings.
Comps: Compensation offered by casinos to regulars players in the form of cash back schemes, free meals, and other freebies.
Credits: The accumulated amount a player can play with at a given time. It includes the amount deposited and his winnings divided by the denomination of the machine. $10 in a 25 cent machine gives 40 credits, whereas in a $5 machine gives only 2 credits.
Deuces Wild Video Poker: A game in which twos can be used as any card.
Flush: A hand with 5 cards of the same suit.
Flat Top: A machine with a constant jackpot.
Four of a Kind: A hand with 4 cards of the same denomination.
Full House: A hand containing a three of a kind and a pair.
Inside Straight: A hand containing 4 cards that can contribute to a straight, and the needed card falls in the middle of the run.
Jacks or Better: A game in which a pair of jacks is the minimum winning hand. It is the most common video poker game.
Junk Hand: A bad hand in which all five cards need to be discarded.
Multi Play: Machines in which ten hands can be played simultaneously.
Pat Hand: A hand that is dealt as a winning hand and no card needs to be discarded.
Pick'em Video Poker: A game in which the player is dealt 2 single cards and 2 decks of 3 cards. Only 4 cards can be seen. The player has to pick one of the 2 decks.
Rag: A card that is irrelevant to the hand.
Random Number Generator: The heart of the video poker machine used to generate the random sequence of cards.
Royal Flush: A hand containing a 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of the same suit.
Straight: A hand containing 5 cards not of the same suit in a continuous sequence.
Straight Flush: A hand containing 5 cards of the same suit in a continuous sequence.
Strategy Card: A reference sheet used by beginners that outlines the hold/discard strategy for a particular version of poker.
Three of a Kind: A hand containing 3 cards of the same denomination.
Two Pairs: A hand containing 2 different pairs.
Wild Card: A card that can be used to represent any other card.
Winning Hand: A hand that offers a payout.
